happy customer

ShirlweddingThis past summer, I had the opportunity to work with a great customer who was looking for gifts for her bridal party.  She ordered bags specific to each of her bridesmaids' favorite sweet treats.  As promised, Sheryl delivered some excellent photos of her wedding party looking fabulous modeling the bags.  Thanks again Sheryl!  I am glad to see everyone was happy!

shanalogic.com is awesome!

1624_bubble_apple_full It's been about a month since I have started selling some of my items on shanalogic.com and I am nothing but happy with the experience.  It's a great site that is well organized and is run extremely professionally (Shana rocks!).  They offer a great selection of products from indie artists and I'm honored to be able to see my products in there with all the other great things that they carry.  My latest contribution is a large fleece Happy Apple Plushy Pillow.  It's so much fun to make and it's huge (about 15" by 15") and soft and cuddly!

so cute it hurts

Fantastictoys_2 Looking for an activity for you and your kids... or perhaps just you???  Well, look no further!  This Mushroom Cottage Paper Playset by Etsy member FantasticToys is amazing.  This set comes to you on heavy cardstock and then you just cut it out and tape it together.  So creative!  There is also a pdf version that you can print yourself if you just can't wait!

why are people crazy?

Icecream

Since summer is rapidly winding down, today I decided to try and get in one last visit to the local ice creamery.  Doesn't it sound delightful?  Well, though their sweets may be sweet, the hired help is a bit sour.  Now, I know it's hard to imagine a business staffed almost entirely by high school girls would be lacking in customer service, but please just humor me for one second....

Having made frequent visits to this establishment over the summer, I quickly learned some of the basic rules.  First and foremost, NEVER... I mean NEVER ask for a medium ice cream cone!  If you fail to notice one of the many signs ("We don't have medium cones - never had 'em, never will!"), you will definitely be educated as the lifeless yet judgemental, "we don't have mediums" drones out of the communication hole in the order window.  Ice_cream_sign I guess I see why they get annoyed... they have placed a rather large neon pink "DUH!" sign with an arrow pointing to many sample questions that have been carefully taped to the window.  The questions include a number of topics and definitely address questions about all things related to the medium cone.  I think most people are confused because they offer a small, a large, and an extra large cone and simply randomly snub the medium.

That being said, today I decided to go with a shake.  When the little door slid open and I saw an eyeball looking at me through the tiny screen, I asked for a "small shake."  I thought that was simple enough... there were three prices for shakes and I wanted the cheapest and smallest one.  Well, along came an irritated yet informative... "We don't serve small shakes, only medium, large, and extra large."  DUH!

free press

Skirtmag One of my cat wallets was just featured in Skirt! Magazine as one of the editor's picks.  I had never heard of this magazine before (being as it is mainly a South Eastern US publication and I am in New Jersey), but they also have an online edition that anyone can check out.  The editor said she would send me a hard copy of the magazine and I hope she keeps her word... I am so excited to see something I made in print in a magazine. Yes, I am a humongous nerd - I'm not lying... I really can't wait to see it!

busy busy busy

I've been counting down since June 16th and the time has finally arrived that I am back to work full time.  The teaching profession is very tricky because for two summer months a year, you think you live the life of luxury and then the carpet gets pulled out from under you every fall :)

Anyway, I have been extremely busy and have not had much time for blogging, crafting, or even just browsing the internet.  I do have some newsworthy items though... starting about two weeks ago, I was very excited to get some of my products listed on Shana Logic (an awesome online shop featuring tons of indie designers).  I am really impressed with this shop and the way that it is run!  Big props to my friend Amy who directed me there!

Neetmagazinespread_3 Some of my note cards are featured in the newest issue of N.E.E.T. Magazine.  N.E.E.T. is an online quarterly magazine that is based out of the UK and was created "as a showcase for grassroots creativity."  If you haven't seen it before, go check it out!  The screen capture on the left is from issue #08.

827_deer_screen_print_bag_2 Most of my free time has been spent readying myself for the school year, so there hasn't been much new in the crafting department.  I did manage to make a couple screen printed bags this past Tuesday.  I purchased these bags premade and then screen printed my deer image on them.  I'll be offering them in my Etsy shop as a lower priced bag option.  I'm hoping to be back in full crafting mode in a week or two when life settles down again :)
