lazy sunday

1028_deer_resting

Do you ever wonder what deer are doing when they aren't walking around eating your plants or almost being hit by your car?  Well, I do.  I always wondered where they sleep... do they have a nest... do they just lay down??? Enquiring minds want to know!  Well, I woke up this morning to find two deer sleeping in my back yard.  They were just curled up in a ball (like my dogs would be) and it was very cute.  I tried to get a good picture, but was only able to nab the pic above of one deer just kind of hanging out.  They actually hung around on the ground for a couple hours before getting up and leaving.

1028_lazy_dogs The dogs and I were equally ambitious today.  I've had a very busy week (62 hours worth of work over five days) and I am trying to enjoy every minute of this one day off.  After coming to terms with the fact that I didn't gain an hour this morning (I thought last night was the end of Daylight Savings Time), I spent some quality time with my Tivo and caught up on some of the highlights from the week... namely the season finale of Damages with Glenn Close.  If you haven't seen it, it is really a great show that not only raises a lot of questions about the plot, but also gives you some answers and makes the viewer feel like they have closure while still wanting more... attention LOST producers & writers: please take note - it can be done!

Halloween Since it is three days away, I also decided to decorate for Halloween this morning.  This took approximately 3 mintues since I own a whopping three Halloween decorations.   I purchased the candy corn fella from my friend Laura and the other two decorations are gifts from my mom.  Though not authentic, the cat decoration on the right has that vintage feel that I do SO love.  I have them all displayed in this odd wood and copper pipe partition that is in between the front hallway and the dining room.  It is super-funky 60's, but the jury is out as to whether it is cool or hideous... I change my mind daily.

stuff it!

Hamsterscreenprintedplush Finally, after many unsuccessful attempts, I was able to create a new screen to do some screen printing.  I don't know what was going wrong, but for a while there, I couldn't create any new screens.  It was just like the ability had just vanished!  I would carefully follow all of the steps I had been accustomed to and then - BAM - disaster central!

Anyway, over the weekend, I made this little hamster critter that is clutching a mushroom.  I screen printed the hamster in brown on white fleece and in blue on tan fleece.  These little pillows will be available soon in my etsy shop.  The white critter has a orange cotton back and the tan guy has a red canvas back.  They are each about eight inches tall and stuffed to about two inches deep.

more new things to come soon....

happy fruit is always in season

Fruitbanner

I have just finished sewing a whole bunch of happy fruit pillows that will soon be on their way to shanalogic.  Happy Apples, Pear, and Oranges will all be looking for new homes.  I like working with these large pillows... I make them of fleece (which is super soft) and the colors are a lot of fun to work with.  You just can't be in a bad mood when you are constructing a 19" tall stuffed fleece pear!

fall is finally here

1014_house

Well, I guess fall has technically been here for some time, but now it finally feels like it too!  We have been having some ridiculously warm and humid weather up until a few days ago.  This weekend, though, was amazing...  those cool fall days that are sunny enough to make you want to be outside with crystal clear skies and the smell of autumn in the air.

1014_fall3This is my first fall in the new house and, as you might see from the pictures, there are a few leaves to be raked.  I am still in denial about it and pretending that they aren't there.  The driveway has been lost to leaf cover and I am no longer sure where the front yard ends and the asphalt begins.  Luckily, the house is off the beaten path, so I am not too worried about keeping up appearances for the neighboors.  The crunchy-crackly sound at your feet is kind of fun too... it's the first time I have had trees in my yard since I was a little kid.  I know all of the fun will be gone on the first raking day - hmmm, maybe a strong wind will blow by and take them all away after I am done enjoying them?
