rummaged

Twice a year, the Visiting Nurse Association of Somerset Hills has the most amazing rummage sale.  They take donations for about a month and then have a huge sale that takes place over three days.  They have several tents and you travel from tent to tent looking at TONS of things for sale.  Today, I was at the sale for about two hours.  I went into their Kitchen, Housewares, Furniture, Vintage, Office, Toy, and Appliances tents.  I came away with some good deals and spent a total of $60.  Here are a few of my treasures:

Little Twin Stars Kiki & Lala dolls from 1976 (not in the best condition, but I have never seen them before)  3. various kitchen and household items (the white dishes are ceramic serving dishes from Eastern Airlines; the little enamel teapot is an addiction of mine - I buy them every time I see one)  4.  a three tier corner plant stand (I have wanted this exact stand for quite some time)  5. some plush tomato or apple guy (anyone know what it is?)  6.  some string art from 1967

There are a few other items, but I didn't get around to photographing everything.  Now I just have to start my countdown to the next VNA sale!

eggsters

My newest ebay win has arrived... a Tupperware Eggsters toy.  Someone was showing some pictures of one of these on flickr and it seemed like such a rip-off ghetto version of a Mr. Potato Head that I felt I needed to own one.  You get one egg and then the parts to make these three characters shown in the pic: Bulgy Bear, Pudgy Pup, and Lumpy Lion.  I don't know when this is from - 60's, 70's, 80's even? - as there is no date on the box.  I just have to decide which way I want to display it on my collectibles shelf.  I'm thinking as the dog... what do you think? 

custom printed fabric

I was very happy to come home from work and have my first custom printed fabric waiting for me in my mailbox.  I used one of my older designs just to see how it would come out and I am really pleased with the quality.  It is much more bold than I had thought it would be (I thought the colors would come out really muted).  That being said, the colors are a bit off... especially the orange which was a bit more reddish in my original. 

Now I just have to decide what to do with it.  It's too thin for the exterior of a tote and too expensive for a lining.  I might see if I can make some zippered pouches out of it.  I'll post more when I have something finished!

it's raining sprinkles notecard

These new "It's Raining Sprinkles" notecards are now available in my etsy shop. These cards come in sets of three and are printed in three colors on white cardstock and come with coordinating yellow enevelopes.

I spent a few hours printing notecards this afternoon.  I think I will still be cleaning up the mess for the next few days... I keep finding new ink stain surprises everywhere I look.  My messiness aside, I'm quite pleased because I was able to print a good amount of cards in three different designs: hamsters, astronauts, and ice cream sprinkles. I'll post some better quality scans when they are all dry.

 

thrifty saturday

Today was one of the first nice warm days that we have had and, for me, I deemed it the official opening of flea market and yard sale season.  We decided to head down to the Golden Nugget Flea Market in Lambertville to see if they had anything good.  It's still a little early in the year, so it wasn't completely full of vendors, but it was enough to satisfy my need to look around at old junk!  I only ended up purchasing a Sony "Dream Machine" clock radio which I'm assuming, judging from the amount of mustard yellow, is from the seventies. 

Following the flea market, we headed down to some thrift stores in the Trenton area.  On the way we stopped at IT'S NUTTS which is a cool old restaurant that has had several reincarnations since I have lived in the area.  They seem to always pick a name that has six letters so that they can re-use the awesome sign out front (I think it has been F-I-F-T-I-E-S and J-I-M-M-Y-S to name a few).  Though the service was terrible (yet pleasant), the food was awesome!  I had a ceaser salad and cuban sandwich that were both out of this world.  It was reasonably priced too... something like $28 for two people!  I would highly recommend it if you like good food, but don't mind waiting to get it ;)

Following lunch, the thrift store action was good... not great, but not bad either.  I wound up buying a few more kitchen items that I definitely don't need, but were just too cool to pass up.  Two little dessert bowls, a teapot, and a funky metal covered bowl for $6 total!

 

my second show

I was recently accpeted into my second craft show!  After surviving a small show in Allentown, PA this past winter, my friend Laura convinced me to apply for a bigger show this spring.  The accepted vendors were announced last week and I was one of them (insert sigh of relief and small "yay").  This show is in Philadelphia, PA and is called the Art Star Craft Bazaar.  The show is on May 30th and 31st... if you are in the area, come stop by and say hi!

I was just reading up on this street artist that does tiled mosaics of video games (mostly Space Invaders) from the pixelated days of yore. They are all around the world and if you go to this site, you can find maps and picture from all over! I've seen many pics similar to the these Pac-Man ghosts on flickr, but never realized they were all by the same artist. I guess if my home has to ever get graffitied, this is the way to go!

it may be time to re-evaluate your life when...

... you get bored on a Sunday morning and go around your house putting googly eyes on your appliances and furniture.  I found a bag of these eyes in my craft room and decided to anthropomorphize my home.  My favorite is my bedside table... he comes to life nicely.  Next to that, I would have to say that I am a fan of Mr. Kitchen-Aid Mixer and the small family of kitchen jars.  Now, fear not, I haven't gone completely insane.  It's just some tape holding the eyes in place.  Everything is back to normal now :)
