Get ready for lots of pics! I just got back from Washington DC and I am exhausted, but really excited! In a nutshell, the Crafty Bastards show was amazing. Though I was questioning my sanity when we pulled out of my driveway at 3 am to head down to DC, the apprehension disappeared once we got there. It was so well organized, well attended, and fun!
The first positive thing that happened was that, as a I checked in as bubbledog, one of the volunteers got excited and asked if I had seen the promotional artwork for the fair that was featured in that week's Washington City Paper. The artist, Ben Claassen, put my raining sprinkles character in the center of the collage and you can see the sprinkles raining down in the background. The poster is excellent and here is a pic:

We actually got to DC really early (earlier than expected), so I had lots of time to set-up. I didn't change too much since my last craft show, but did add a yellow tablecloth and flanked my table with some hanging racks (thanks to my friend Laura at dogboneart for the idea).

The day went really well. I was busy throughout the entire event, I met a lot of nice people, and I moved quite a bit of my stuff. The customers in DC seemed really excited to have this fair. A couple people mentioned that the city needs more of this kind of thing. From my outsiders view, the city seemed very progressive, but I was told many times that it is a very conservative place.
About halfway through the day, there was a breakdance competition. I didn't get down there to see any of it (though I could definitely hear the music), but my helper brought my camera and got a few shots for me. It does take me back... I'm ashamed to say that I think I saw the movie Breakin' about a hundred times on HBO when I was twelve.

This next bit is not craft related but... after the show, we started to head back to NJ, but were too exhausted to go all the way back that night. Not far outside of Washington, we came across the town of Laurel, Maryland and decided to get a room to get some rest. While driving and barely half awake, we spotted this amazing old Arby's sign all lit up in it's 70's splendor. Like an idiot, I didn't take a picture - it was quite the spectacle. I did manage to snap one on the way home in the morning. It's not as awesome, but still pretty cool.
All in all, it was a great weekend. If you have never been to this show, you have to mark your calendars and go next year. I'll be posting some of the things I bought during the week. Thanks again Crafty Bastards!
