As ashamed as I am to admit this, last night I downloaded The Muppets Take Manhattan to watch... at 38 years old... by myself. I can hear the trombones playing wah-wah-wah-waaahhh in the background as I admit that. All shame aside... it was really fun to watch again! I couldn't remember if I had seen it when I was a kid, but I instantly started to remember it when it started. I was thrilled when the following scene came on... I remembered laughing so hard with my brothers when Miss Piggy is on the skates. The clip goes on and on, but you should try and watch the first two minutes!
As I just stumbled across an old Mego Wonder Woman doll that I purchased several years ago, I suddenly felt the need to do some youtubin' of the old Wonder Woman tv series from the seventies. For those of you that want to see some amazing clips (and by amazing, I of course mean cheesy), here goes. Let's start with that amazing theme song... really, I love everything that is amazing about it!
I only saw these shows as reruns in the early eighties and then again when I was in my early twenties and they were running them on tv. My absolute favorite thing was when Wonder Woman transformed into something rather than her usual crime fighting outfit. First, may I present the diving suit:
Yes my friends, that was on prime time tv. You also have to love the skate boarding accessories:
I'm not sure, but they may have sped up the film on some of that ;) Last, but not least, the motor cycle outfit, which appears to be a mixture of the diving suit paired with the skateboard equipment and then repurposed with some gold spray paint:
I like how she seems REALLY focused on spinning in that one. Of course, as I laugh at these clips and stare open mouthed at their production value (or lack there of), I actually love them and they warm my heart with nostalgic pre-CGI bliss. I need to find a place to proudly display that Wonder Woman doll!
I apologize in advance... this song has been stuck in my head all morning and this post may end up doing the same to you. I was talking about some old cartoons yesterday and I woke up with the Josie and the Pussycats theme song on permanent loop in my head. Apparently, the show originated in 1970, but I remember watching it in the early eighties. My brothers and I were huge Scooby Doo fans (watching a couple different airings each day) and an occassional Josie episode would pop up in our cartoon watching schedule. It's a pretty awesome theme song for a cartoon...
I always wondered why they were some times just your typical, mystery solving, girl band while at other times, they were your typical, mystery solving, girl band, that travelled through outerspace??? Well, wikipedia just answered that question for me... the show was revamped in 1972 and became Josie and the Pussycats in Outerspace.
This promo for "Portlandia" with Fred Armisen is pretty hysterical. It seems that just about everyone that has dabbled in the crafty realm has at one time or another augmented an item with a bird.
I have a lot of work to do today, so of course, I just spent the morning avoiding this work by catching up on some blog reading. I came across the following video clip on the Tokyo Bunnie Blog and had to post it immediately. The graphics and the song are amazing! It's from Yo Gabba Gabba which I have been told is super cute show, but I really only know of it from goofy clips I see on The Soup. I think this will be my new theme song...
So, as ashamed as I am to admit it, I think am experiencing slight feelings of grief and loss with the end of LOST last night. I barely slept last night as scenes and questions raced through my mind (most of which have lingered with me at work today). I'm sad to see the show and the characters go, but I have always said that I would watch this whole series again one day. It was a great ride!
My brother and his girlfriend invited me to go with them to see Michael Ian Black and Michael Showalter at the Trocadero in Philadelphia last night. Originally part of a 2009 tour to promote Michael & Michael Have Issues, we lucked out catching this rescheduled performance. It was some really funny stuff... made me want to watch The State (which I had, sadly, only caught a few episodes of back when it was on the air) and Wet Hot American Summer (if you haven't see this movie, it is completely ridiculous, but hysterical).
So, I have had this song stuck in my head for the last day. These SNL Digital Shorts are always pretty funny, but this one has just embedded itself in my brain. The line "... this ain't my dad, this is a cellphone" has had me laughing to myself all day. If you haven't seen it and you like some good ol' stupid humor, then it is worth sitting through the commercial.
Did you ever experience a song that is so viral in it's musical composition, that it just sticks in your head and plays over and over and over again? Well, while eating lunch this afternoon, I was on the search for old cartoon intros on youtube. Why, you ask... because I've come to accept that I'm a nerd and these things give me pleasure, that's why ;) I enjoyed my lunchtime entertainment, but when little snippets of these tunes were running through my brain on overdrive for the rest of the day, then I had a problem.
Watch these at your own risk... especially if they are going to reactivate a dormant childhood memory.
My first selection is probably the most evil when it comes to sticking in your brain. I loved this cartoon when I was younger and everyone that is in their early to mid thirties can probably hum (if not sing) the entire tune:
This next one is a classic and couldn't be more eighties if it tried. It can definitely crawl its way into your brain and live there for a while:
I nearly forgot the follwoing show ever existed. Of course it seems like a logical concept for a show and it has a pretty great theme tune... the lyrics are very involved, so try to follow along:
Thanks to the various youtube folks for finding and uploading these beauties!
